Weekend Playlist: UNDERDARK Release Party, Food Truck Rally + Art Fusion

It’s the weekend and that can only mean one thing: it’s time to get out and explore Jacksonville! Here are our picks of what you should be checking out this weekend.

Community Connections Mardi Gras at the Garden Club of Jacksonville

Feb. 4 Let the good times roll at this Mardi Gras extravaganza featuring authentic Cajun food from Gumbo YaYa’s, Aw Shucks Oyster Bar and other local spots, as well as a King Cake celebration and plenty to drink.

This year’s celebration will also include “Bourbon Street” bourbon tastings and a “City Park” cigar sampling. Come dance, eat and enjoy good times to the music of Spice and the Po Boys. The party starts at 5:30 p.m. and will continue until 9 p.m. More info on the Facebook event page.

Engine 15 Brewing Company Ladies Night

Feb. 4 It’s the first Thursday of the month…and that means it’s time for another ladies night at Engine 15. Stop by for free manicures, $3 Engine 15 pints and $9 bottomless wine glasses, as well as a special tapping of new charity beer Mutki Pale Ale benefitting Rethreaded.

For the Love of Food Trucks in Unity Plaza

Feb. 6 It’s going to be one sweet event on Saturday as 10 local food trucks and three dessert trucks hold a Valentines-themed rally complete with a free kids zone, cupcake decorating, speed dating, a hot chocolate bar, pet adoptions, Painting with A Twist, photo booths with Valentine props and more.

Intuition Ale Works UNDERDARK 2016 Release Party

Feb. 6 Time to unleash your dark (beer) side; the annual UNDERDARK release is this Saturday and with it come all the usual hoopla over this local favorite brew. Intuition will be shutting down the street and turning it into a block party, with plenty of UNDERDARK on tap as well as bottles to take home.

2016 Chariots of Fur Beach Run and Festival

Feb. 6 Pups will be taking over the beach Saturday for the annual 5K walk/run Chariots of Fur event benefitting the Saint Francis Animal Hospital, a nonprofit providing medical care to less-fortunate family pets.

Family and pet-friendly activities include DOGA (yoga with your dog), the beach race, fly ball demos, agility demos and more. For more info, visit chariotsoffur5k.org.

Carve Vodka Open House

Feb. 6 In honor of the distillery’s one-year anniversary, get a behind-the-scenes look of the process and people of Grey Matter Distillery. Also a great excuse to pick up a few bottles to get you through the Super Bowl parties.

Art Fusion with MOCA in Hemming Park

Feb. 7 Join the Museum of Contemporary Art as they host a hands-on art-making project in Hemming Park. This month’s project is inspired by Mickalene Thomas’ “When Ends Meet” series from the “In Living Color” exhibition using colorful rhinestones to create a self-portrait.
