PHINS 9th Annual Gumbo Festival

Looking for some bon temps right here in the River City? Stop by the Jacksonville Landing Friday night or Saturday afternoon to take part in the festivities for the 9th Annual Gumbo Festival hosted by the local Parrot Heads society, with all proceeds from the event benefitting the Mandarin Food Bank.

There will be a pub crawl at The Jacksonville Landing from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. followed by TropRock musical entertainment, and the Gumbo competition + tastings taking place from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday.

Tickets for tasting wristbands are $10 a piece, or you can pay $50 for a weekend pass. You can also drop off non-perishable food items throughout the weekend to be donated to the Mandarin Food Bank.

Foodies & Movies in Orange Park

Food trucks and classic movies; what could be a better mix?

Each Friday night in March, the City of Orange Park is hosting a Foodies and Movies event at Town Hall Park from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. A live band will play from 6 to 8 p.m., with an outdoor movie starting at 8 p.m.

The Great Urban Race

Are you a fan of the show Amazing Race? You should probably check out The Great Urban Race, coming to Jacksonville this Saturday. Hundreds of adventurers will take to the city streets from noon to 5 p.m. to unlock clues and participate in mental and physical challenges at unique stops throughout Jacksonville.

New to Jacksonville and looking for things to do? Or maybe you’ve been here a while and think you’ve done everything worth doing. You may think you know the First Coast, but read through this list and you may find you don’t know Jax.

1. Get face to face with lions, tigers and bobcats at Catty Shack Wildlife Ranch.

Home to Siberian tigers, lions, cougars, black leopards and other wild cats, Catty Shack Wildlife Ranch is a nonprofit sanctuary open to anyone who wants to get up close and personal with their favorite felines. Visitors can stop by on varying days of the week for a 45 minute guided tour, with tickets starting at $10 for adults, $5 for children.

Catty Shack Ranch is located at 1860 Starratt Road.

2. Brew your own batch of craft beer.

The success of Jacksonville’s craft breweries may have you day dreaming of one day brewing your own unique batch of beer. Dream no more - Engine 15 Brewing Company offers a brew-your-own program that caters to both new brewers and experienced brewers who don’t have the time to monitor every step of the brewing process.

You can brew your own recipe, or choose from one of Engine 15’s more than 100 tried-and-tested recipes, then bottle your own beer with personal labels.
