The commercial, political and historic core of Jacksonville, Downtown Jacksonville offers urban living mixed with public parks and riverfront views for those who enjoy a short commute and city lifestyle. No outrageous rent rates or out-of-reach condo prices here; the downtown Jacksonville area offers everything from entry-level housing to luxury high-rise developments, so you can take your pick based on preferred amenities, views and features like exposed brick or loft-style layouts. The district is in the middle of a dramatic renaissance, filling once vacant storefronts with art galleries, eclectic bars and music venues, as well as offices for up-and-coming tech companies and co-work spaces. Residents enjoy attractions like touring Broadway shows at the Times-Union Center, monthly Art Walks, live concerts by the river and sporting events at EverBank Field. Want to know more? Let’s talk.

For a quick bite to eat before catching a show downtown or a lunch spot to meet up with friends, stop in to this hole-in-the-wall eatery for a rotating selection of handheld goodies like the panko-crusted chicken sandwich or the classic Chomp Burger. Don’t pass on the chips – they are definitely worth the calorie splurge.
A downtown staple known for its bacon cheese fries, fish tacos and a duck grilled cheese that’s been featured on the Travel Channel as one of the best sandwiches in America. The menu full of simple, fresh selections makes it one of the best breakfast and lunch spots in town.
One of downtown’s original destination bars, this dimly lit spot draws in crowds for its specialty craft cocktails and draft specials while hosting events like kamikaze karaoke (participants are given a randomly selected song, and are rewarded with a free shot if they choose to sing it) and trivia.
Don’t be fooled by the living room set up as soon as you enter the door, keep walking and you’ll enter the large speakeasy-themed bar in the back, complete with several sitting areas, room for live music and a wrap-around bar. Patrons can belly up and watch the bartenders whip up craft cocktails like the Sliced Bread, Old Fashions, Manhattans and a rotating selection of seasonal drinks. Stop in on Sundays for swing dancing classes – either to learn or just to watch.
The first wednesday of each month, locals from all over the city head downtown to take part in the monthly Art Walk; a celebration of Jax culture featuring local vendors, tons of food and local brews and a schedule of events themed for that particular month. There’s been an Oktoberfest party complete with drinking games, a celebration of all things “love” for February and even a live performance from the Jacksonville Symphony in the middle of Hemming Park (for free!). Check out the special theme for the event each month at jacksonvilleartwalk.com.
A growing collection of local food vendors, food trucks, artisans, and a beer garden makes this monthly event one you won’t want to miss. Now held in Hemming Plaza the third Thursday of each month, it’s a great chance to check out locally produced goods, listen to live music and hangout with other locals.
